The ship set sail nearing the third solstice of the moon. ..A night I will never forget. Mother stirred her belongings up into a small napsack, whereas I just took the clothes upon my back and headed out. "Lets go", she said, "we're going to miss the boat!" While on our way to the ship, countless preminitions faltered me with each step I took. A fathomed mirage of my mother drowning caused me to lose my breathe. As I stood dormant upon the cold, damp grass, a noise rose from afar. "Hurry up! We don't have much time. This will all be over soon.. Please trust me," hounded my mother. Grabbing my arm tightly, we went aboard. She could see through the shine in my eye that something was wrong. "Well? What is it?" she asked, expecting an answer. I just shrugged, gently moving my shoulders up to my head. She didn't deserve an answer. The boarding was finished and we set sail into the dark, misty ocean. It was late, so I closed my eyes and went to sleep. Nightmare after nightmare, countless suffering and painful decisions plagued my inner being. Strangely enough I awoke not to these 'dreams', but of a lady's shrill voice screaming from afar. "Look outside! What a beautiful wave!" It caused a stir enough to grab the attention of most on board. After shaking my head, I went to see this "beautiful" wave. As I walked out of the lobby to the frontboard of the ship, I noticed that the current seemed harsh. My eyes gazed up towards the pearly white stars in the sky, however they were nowhere to be found. Instead, a large upsurge of water tore through the sky. Beautiful as it may be.. there was one colossal problem. It was heading for us. My pupils, now glossy and enlarged, began to tear at the thought of what was to come. Pacing back towards the lobby where my mother was peacefully dreaming, I fell upon the hard, wooden floor. The echoing of alarm bells, along with patrons screaming was all I could hear. Glass shattered from the window panes; the sturdy wooden pillars which supported the ship broke in two. The vessel was longer resilient to the water, falling victim to it's demise. Passengers took what was left of their belongings and began to jump off into the freezing sea. I could see my mother from afar. Her body, shaking from fear, motioned a careful, yet dangerous stride towards me. I took each step thinking it was my last, when the floor from below me sunk in. I grabbed ahold of the broken plank of wood, seemingly inches from the water. The cold, contemptous air sent chills from my feet all the way to my spine. Jumping, my mother grabbed ahold of the same board I laid dormant on, holding me tight. This was it.. our final farewell. My arms gripped tight against her back, screaming, "I know why you took me here Mom. You were afraid of what people would think of me. All my life I've had something to hide. My talents with the divine beseeched your better judgement, and for that, I'm sorry. You did this for me so that I may live without scorn. A worry free life." The tears in her eyes grew as my mother softly said "I love you, from now and until ever more." The board wouldn't hold the both of us, this we both knew. At that very moment, she let free her hands. The water engulfed her body, leaving nothing to spare. What felt like days passed, and while recollecting what just happened, a small vessel passed by. I was safe. Upon arriving to our destination, I came across that very napsack floating upon the ocean line. I opened it up and inside there were no clothes, jewelry, or makeup; but merely entries from a journal, to which I began to read. I thought to myself as I continued to read. All of my life I felt she was here to condemn me, whereas she just wanted the best for me. Forever will you be in my heart, my soul.. my dreams. Lilac | |
